Words can't describe...

today, June 17, 2011... Malakai turns 6 years old and finishes Kindergarten at George Washington Academy in Casablanca, Morocco....
...as a family we transport our lives, our belongings, our hearts back to San Diego, California after living overseas for 5 years. Malakai was a 1 year old when we moved to Portugal, and Kihana was born in Portugal. Malakai has started his schooling in Morocco (2 years of Kindergarten), where he has lived and learned as a "third culture kid," experienced special friendships, learned to speak French, where we have all learned to converse in a "shwea" Derijia and have found our place as "third culture people" in a foreign, but amazing land.

Tears fill my eyes as so many special memories fill my mind... from saying "Selama Alaykoom" every day to the security guards at the gate; grocery shopping at "Label Vie," where every time the parking attendant says "KIKI!!!!" and then proceeds to buy her a bouncy ball, a gum ball from the vending machines and then gives her a rose on our way out; playgroup at "O Palm" every Friday morning with moms and kids from all over the world enjoying crepes and Jus d' Orange, playing and chatting; surfing and talking among floating trash with special friends, while the kids play on the beach; running and processing life with my amazing girlfriends; hearing stories from Zac and riding with the "bike crew" through local villages, with raw sewage and trash, kids playing and throwing rocks at us; being blessed beyond words by my Moroccan
friends and their hospitality over couscous, tagines, safaa, and Henna; exploring the dramatic countryside from the Sahara Desert to the Atlas Mountains to the Atlantic Ocean; talking with neighbors and friends, watching all the kids play, explore and create with one another like brothers and sisters... Morocco has truly captured my heart and I feel so full and blessed and thankful to have lived here and experienced the driving, the food, the culture, the people...
goodbye Morocco... you will always be in my heart and prayers.
