Springtime!!!

Spring is a beautiful time of year anywhere, but I especially love it here. Most of the year, the ground is brown and covered in trash, but after the rains, the green wheat starts growing tall, which hides the trash, and yellow, purple and white wild flowers cover the ground. It is beautiful and feels redemptive to see some natural beauty and new life!

We truly enjoyed being outdoors this weekend, as we got to play in the water at the beach (where they sell cotton candy for 50 cents) and go for a bike ride through the villages, on the trails by our house. Zac rides these trails regularly, but this is the first time that I have been able to enjoy this unique experience. I wish there was a way to capture this experience...think of packs of dirty kids (throwing rocks with their sling shots which hit me twice), cows hopping by with their feet tied, covered ladies sitting out in the grassy fields having picnics, men plying single blade plows, sheep, half-finished houses, and sewage and soapsuds running down the dirt slopes, with the smell of burning trash and cow poop and the sound of the call to prayer ("allah akbar") echoing across the countryside.
