The boys didn't have school on Friday or Monday, so we decided to take a little road trip up north. We drove through beautiful scenery, farmlands, rolling hills and arrived (4 1/2 hours later) at this beautiful little village situated in the Rif mountains. This village has a long history, but currently it is known as the "blue city," where all the walls are painted blue (originally by the Jews), where the Berber (native mountain people) roam the lands while tending to their goats, etc., where mainly Spanish, Berber and Deresia are spoken and where the people are very friendly and layed back. We loved this place! The colors are vibrant, the mountains and the medina are peaceful and beautiful, and the food (especially the goat cheese and butter) is amazing!
Every morning we went for hikes in the mountains behind our hotel. This is the first year that Malakai loved hiking and climbing trees:) Kihana liked to pick flowers and stuff her pockets with rocks!
On the way home, we were feeling adventurous, so we decided to drive home by way of the Mediterranean (the most northern coast of Africa). Little did we know that it would take us 10 1/2 hours to get home (2 1/2 hours to drive 40 km at points). But we did love the scenery, amazing mountains, incredible sea, and we could even see Spain and the Rock of Gibraltar in the distance across the Mediterranean Sea!
