After a 24 hour plus trip from Portugal by plane and car, we arrived in San Diego, CA almost two weeks ago. The kids did amazingly well traveling (especially for only sleeping 45 min. on the 10 hour flight:) and we have all adjusted to the time change rather quickly! It's hard to imagine that we have actually moved from Portugal. We have been struggling to process life these days, as we have been so blessed to be enjoying time with friends and family here in California, but are feeling homeless, missing Portugal and thinking about moving to Morocco. It's hard to make sense of it all, but in the meantime we are trying to make the most of our time here visiting great friends, spending time with family, and enjoying yummy Mexican food and fun BBQ's!
Malakai has been processing life in America and has been missing his friends at "A Chupeta" (his preschool) and here are some of his observations:
- "Everyone speaks English here...if I speak Portuguese no one will understand me..."
-"There are so many American flags!"
-"The cheese is orange...That's crazy!"
-"There are no seeds in the grapes...it's much easier to eat grapes here..."
-"They eat marshmellows in America...that's crazy...I don't know why, I don't like marshmellows."

We are so thankful for our good friends, Joe and Wanida, who picked us up from the LAX airport and have graciously hosted us and our crazy, jetlagged kids for the past 10 days in Poway, CA. Thanks Maertz's!!!! It has also been so exciting to meet our first new little nephew/cousin,
Soren Garbriel Sawyer, and spend time with Brandon and Moe!

Now we are visiting Zac's mom, "Grandma JoJo," and stepdad, "Grandpa Gordon" in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Malakai is loving "desert walks" with "Grandma JoJo" and learning all about the cactus and dessert creatures!

Malakai and Kihana having lots of fun with lots of giggles:) Makes us happy!

Wow, what a whirlwind!!! We're glad you made it safely and are enjoying Cali again (it's hard to do, right???). We can't wait to see you all! Your kids are beautiful and so happy. I'm thrilled for JJ to be able to hang with them, while you're here! All I can say is...24 hour flight. That sounds insane!!
Welcome home, guys...I love all of Malakai's observations!! Give a call if you are still in Poway, we have to see you before you fly off to far away places again!!
